he popular four-panel comic by Kiyohiko Azuma
has been made into an animation! This unusual anime portrays the daily lives
of a group of ordinary but colorful high-school girls,
including Mihama Chiyo-chan, a ten-year-old genius who skipped elementary
and junior high to attend high school, Sakaki-san, who oozes
a cool disposition yet has a weak spot for anything cute,
the rambunctious Tomo Takino, the scatterbrained Ayumu Kasuga,
nicknamed Osaka after her place of origin, as well as their temperamental
teacher Yukari. Each episode consists of five five-minute stories,
and story's comical tempo makes for a fun TV anime series.
It's the start of a new semester. Teacher Yukari,
running late for the first day of class, puts her bicycle in full gear,
but her chain slips off. A male student passes by and calls out,
"What are you doing |

Ms. Yukari," but Yukari appears not to hear,
and starts banging out her frustration on her bicycle.
The boy hurriedly stops the teacher and starts to fix the chain
for her, hoping that by arriving at school with Yukari, his tardiness will
be overlooked, but as he turns around, he finds that Yukari has stolen his
bicycle and is pedaling away furiously, leaving him behind.
Thanks to her underhanded maneuver, Yukari makes it on time
and introduces herself to her new class, Group 3.
Upon inviting her students to ask her if there's anything
they don't understand, a male student raises his hand, but before
he can get a word in she says, "My measurements are a secret."
She then goes on to emphasize that this doesn't mean she's lacking confidence
in her own figure. All of this, however, is totally unrelated
to what the boy wanted to say. He tells Yukari, "Teacher, your class is next door." Indeed, |

the classroom she had entered
was that of Group 4.
After recovering from her mishap, Yukari finally makes her way
to her own class, where she introduces everyone to a new transfer student.
Standing just barely higher than the teacher's desk is Chiyo Mihama,
the transfer student, who is actually only 10 years old, but
is such a genius that she has skipped grades all the way to high school.
As Chiyo struggles to introduce herself, the class offers warm support.
So begins the fun high school life of these girls.
